Just an avid reader. Mostly SF/Fantasy, some hobbies, paranormal, urban fantasy and lighter, fluffier things.
Think of a book review, instead of an A for effort or everyone gets a gold star situation, as an episode of Cutthroat Kitchen where the judge not only doesn't know what you went through but doesn't care about anything except what's on the plate. And even then it's a matter of their personal taste.
I also expect books to be written by people with real lives and real life issues. I assume they are hard work. So, just assume that all my reviews are written with that knowledge.
(Olay, so I've been cleaning out my DVR and finally got to watch Cutthroat Kitchen—actually not sure it is something I'll keep watching but the comparison struck me. I swear my DVR is starting to be the video equivalent of a reading TBR pile.)
There is one thing I will change: if asked or if I notice, I don't mind editing to add something along the lines of "since this review was written, a revised edition has been released." I won't claim it fixed everything nor will I read the new edition to judge for myself and re-review.
