Just an avid reader. Mostly SF/Fantasy, some hobbies, paranormal, urban fantasy and lighter, fluffier things.
Now my book catalog on goodreads is pared down to a few limp protest books (see screenshots below). The censorship ones are self-explanatory; the P2P books are over mine and friends' computer related peer to peer books, shelves and contents getting fried.
Why would amazon find technical computer nonfiction books by mainstream publishers/authors objectionable? Hell if we knew at first. The reason got tracked down to one of the at the time trending bba authors whose books on any shelf the 21 targeted reviewers originally targeted used would get the shelf deleted. (Continued below screenshots).
Her rants convinced the amazon powers (well, rants and threats of legal action anywhere she would be heard or could post) that all content and shelves for "P2P" were attacks on authors, only about author behavior, damaging to her book sales, threatening her livelihood, incredibly offensive, harassing and bullying.
Why would she think that and how could anyone believe her? Well, she had written fanfiction that readers could read for free and then pulled (with also lots of rants and lawsuit threats) those free files in order to publish for sale and threatened readers keeping or posting said files with legal actions and public disgrace. Threatened any reviewer shelving or reviewing her pulled-to-publish book as a pulled-to-publish book--swears she has a lawyer who was going to help her get them and goodreads for fraud, slander, and restriction of trade.
Apparently in the world of fanfiction, "P2P" is an abbreviation for "pulled to publish" so amazon had to step in to protect the community from us evil reviewers who thought we would bully the bitch by reviewing and shelving religious, healthcare, and computer books as P2P.
Yes, I should be in jail for bullying and attacking her because I shelved a book titled P2P Networking and Applications when studying to update one of my professional certifications. She has lawyers who tell her so and she is proud to be bringing down such horrible people spewing their filth all over goodreads and being the only reason she is not making a six figure annual income from her fanfiction books.
I hope amazon and goodreads enjoy her continued support. Too bad they lost me as a customer and a contributing member. I'm sure she will no doubt contribute a lot more to your community and bottom line than us evil reviewers attacking your membership and customer base with our computer nonfiction shelvings and bullying efforts because we are really ourselves failed authors in disguise jealous of her financial success with fanfiction--now that she is on all the bestseller lists and raking in all that money, her book purchases and sales of her books should easily make up for the wicked reviewers and bookbuyers you drove away. No doubt, her posts, comments and participation on your sites will be ever so much more pleasant and improve the tone of your community. She has obviously been such a model of civility and would never threaten anyone with anything on any site;
I'm sure y'all will have no problems replacing us and convincing every reader on the blogosphere that a review from such a lovely, well-mannered paragon of an author on your site are worth a thousand reader reviews elsewhere. Such an intelligent lady will no doubt diligently put in hours of labor contributing to your site content and growing your community. More than we ever did for you. I'm just so very, very sure ... *gag*
Good luck with that.
