Do NOT try this at home with real alcohol. Popcorn and other non-liver damaging substitutes are okay.
The rules are to go to Groups menu on goodreads and search out groups offering to swap reviews. You know, goodreads.com which like Amazon does not allow review swaps. (Okay, goodreads used to allow so long as U.S. consumer review site legal — meaning so long as they said they were reviewing to get a review, any conditions of the review and if they got the book free for review).
Just from group description on home page of non-secret groups (joining groups and exact phrases not required):
- Down one if it mentions some variation on how hard authors work.
- Down another if says wants variations of positive, endorsing, supportive reviews (even if "honest" is mentioned).
- Down again if says some variation on don't have to post a negative review or if you have nothing nice to say don't say anything.
- Down again if mentioning increasing ratings.
- Down again if mentions for promoting books.
- Down again if swaps/exchange/assign reviews are to be done on Amazon (or both goodreads and Amazon).
You win the game if you are still able to stay awake until you find one that asks participants to be sure to say the review was part of the review program. Booby prize if any even mention that you have to say so if you get book free for a review. Feel free to flag group and just note in comments that it is a group doing review swaps which are not allowed on goodreads or Amazon (group flag oddly just has a checked option for "spam" so why bother with a check?).
