"Fuck it. Let's blow some shit up." - Shaun Mason

I think I am intensely jealous of readers coming new to the trilogy and able to read without being tortured waiting for the next installment. Then again, an intense series so maybe a strategic pause between volumes not the worst idea.

A downright amazing conclusion to an engrossing trilogy I never thought I would read because it had zombies in it.

Once again, the zombies were just a fact of life for the world the books were set in and the real creepiness came from all the adjustments humanity made and stuff the bad guys were doing. A little off on some of the relationship stuff that suddenly coalesced towards end of book (well, compared to the events, blogs, thoughts of characters in earlier books) but overall a good finish to series.

I pre-ordered this one and then kept getting interrupted and having to force myself to wait until well rested and able to set aside an extended period of time in case it was as engrossing as the first two. Good thing--because I did have to read all in one sitting.

Whew! What a ride. I just finished and I completely have no idea how to write a coherent review--except that it's a 5-star series that should appeal to fans of many genres. If you aren't into zombies, it's still a book for you.

[UPDATE: Hugo Awards in this series, folks.]

05/21/2012     1.0% "Just downloaded; but, my eyes are fried from staying too late reading other books so will have to actually start tomorrow."
05/21/2012     1.0% "Oops, glanced at some of the reviews. Most tend towards incoherent or how reader will come back and write a review after book sinks in; mostly 5 stars so I definitely need to shut down and sleep tonight so I can be sucked in tomorrow."
05/22/2012     1.0% "Okay, not ready to start this one yet (real work and life intruding and I know won't put down until finish). If you have not read any Newsflesh trilogy, ignore the fact there are zombies--read for the characters and the story of the civilization and politics of the aftermath. Not a horror, creepy thing the zombie part. The CDC and government stuff -- that's where the creep factor enters"
05/25/2012     1.0% "Still chomping at bit to start. But, have Memorial Day plans and know I need to be rested with a long stretch of available time before letting it suck me in ... lol...actually afraid to start the thing!"

Ratings scale used in absence of a booklikes suggested rating scale:

★★★★★ = All Time Favorite
★★★★½ = Extraordinary Book. Really Loved It.
★★★★☆ = Loved It.
★★★½☆ = Really Liked.
★★★☆☆ = Liked.
★★½☆☆ = Liked parts; parts only okay. Would read more by author.
★★☆☆☆ = Meh. Okay.
★½☆☆☆ = Disliked but kept me reading in hopes would get better.
★☆☆☆☆ = Loathed It. Possibly DNF and a torturous read.
½☆☆☆☆ = So vile was a DNF or should have been. Cannot imagine anyone liking.  (Might also be just an "uploaded" word spew or collection that should not be dignified by calling itself a "published book." Or author should take remedial classes for language written in until basic concepts like using sentences sink in. Is author even old enough to sign a publishing contract or do they need a legal guardian to sign for them?)
