Well, this both "moved" the expected story arc along and didn't.

Moved in the sense it did go from one action scene to another and the question of Sydney and Adrian going to go for it or not was answered. And via cameo appearances did see characters from earlier books and series. It was a very quick read, slight surprise at end with someone else joining their little group.

Didn't "move" in the sense that after finishing the book there wasn't really that much advancement of story arc. The "mystery" elements of who Marcus is (and whose side) unanswered although he is in this book, what's up with the Warriors of Light (and is there Alchemist involvement/conspiracy) although there was exactly one key piece of evidence unveiled, and what's up with rest of cast of characters -- suddenly witch teacher Jackie was very front and center in this book, Sydney did attend Sonya's wedding where there a few "guest appearances" from Vampire Academy folk, Sydney did run into her dad and sisters, -- although Jill , her guards and other students made brief appearances in almost soap opera-y plots with multiple love triangles (luckily only briefly mentioned) ...

I wound up liking it while reading and will be continuing the series. But, after finishing, it was dissatisfying because clearly a "filler" book for the series. I seem to be reading a lot of series "filler" books lately.

Bookshelf BINGO challenge is grand for kick starting me to finish started series and TBR books. I was hesitant to start because cover just screamed "love triangle" (Sydney avoided that at least and backed away from some really TSTL moments). I even debated stopping and changing books the way this one started:

Ratings scale used in absence of a booklikes suggested rating scale:

★★★★★ = All Time Favorite
★★★★½ = Extraordinary Book. Really Loved It.
★★★★☆ = Loved It.
★★★½☆ = Really Liked.
★★★☆☆ = Liked.
★★½☆☆ = Liked parts; parts only okay. Would read more by author.
★★☆☆☆ = Average.   Okay.
★½☆☆☆ = Disliked or meh? but kept me reading in hopes would get better.
★☆☆☆☆ = Loathed It. Possibly DNF and a torturous read.
½☆☆☆☆ = So vile was a DNF or should have been. Cannot imagine anyone liking.  (Might also be just an "uploaded" word spew or collection that should not be dignified by calling itself a "published book." If author is going batshit crazy in the blogosphere over reviews -- I now know why they are getting bad reviews.  Or maybe author should take remedial classes for language written in until basic concepts like using sentences sink in. Is author even old enough to sign a publishing contract or do they need a legal guardian to sign for them?)
