What are some unforgettable book openings?

Undead and Unwed - MaryJanice Davidson I heart New York - Lindsey Kelk

I thought I'd see if I could get some remembrances going if anyone cares to post their own under this same tag.

I'm sure I'll think of more but for some reason two quickly  came to mind, and both involved shoes.

  1.  The opening of Undead and Unwed where new corpse Betsy rises as a vampire to find her stepmom burying her in cheap knock off shoes having already stolen her designer shoes...that opening chapter lured me into reading a few books into the series (may have been the best part).
  2. The opening of purely trope chick lit I Heart New York where bride on her wedding day darts back to her car fir a change of shoes and sees legs in bridal party shoes  -- screwing the groom.
